The Hioki 3651-20 kit of temperature and humidity loggers are a quick and easy way to record the temperature and humidity at various points during an investigation.
The kit consists of 8 loggers which once set record data independently. The data is then downloaded to a computer after the investigation for analysis.
Our usual method of using the kit involves entering all settings pre investigation. This is done by connecting a communication base to a computer (using either of the supplied RS232 or USB versions). Each of the 8 loggers are then placed onto the base in turn. The supplied software then allows you to synchronise the time, set sampling interval and duration. The loggers may also be set to automatically start logging at a certain time.
At the investigation the loggers are placed into position and activated. Their locations are recorded on a site map. At the conclusion of the investigation they are switched off and packed up.
Post investigation the loggers are connected to the Communication Base and data sent to computer via the Hioki Software.
Once in the computer it can be correlated and analysed using the Hioki program or saved in a format allowing analysis in Excel. From there it is quite simple to obtain graphs such as those below in which any anomalies are easily identified.
Once familiar with the equipment and software the set up and data collection is quick and easy - we find the kit is a pleasure to use.
There are other wired/wireless systems available which can also provide live readings at a computer whilst on site and we also utilise them. But the ease of use of the Hioki kit sees this unit in use at many of our investigations. It does have the advantage that once on site, recording can be accomplished independently without relying on sustained wireless transmission, secure wiring or problem free computer operation.
