Haunted Hotspots - info needed.

I know this could be a bit of a long shot but I'm hoping our American friends can steer me in the direction of some well known - or lesser known locations for a little paranormal touring?
I'm heading over to the US with my American partner in a couple of weeks time and it would be good to check things out in a paranormal sense.
We will be in the LA area, San Fransisco/Sacramento areas and a weekend in Chicago.
