A really strange image appeared on a digital photo that I took at Woolsten House today - I wondered if someone here would look at it in an attempt to explain (to a complete skeptic) what happened...

The picture does not appear to be the original as taken from the camera as there's no EXIF data. Compression characteristics do match a couple of cameras (Sony Cybershot or Kodak Easyshare C613) but also seem to match a few image editing programs, including Photoshop.
The original from the camera - including EXIF is always preferable however the image does appear consistent with a bug caught in the camera flash.

Hi - I reduced the size of the photo to post to the forums - the original set can be seen here.... vandehistoric.blogspot.com/Certainly I noticed no bugs when I took the photo

They too have no EXIF, cropping and placing them online could certainly strip the EXIF. If you still have the original, unaltered photo direct from the camera you can submit it at ghostresearchinternational.com/Formpic/form.php but it probably won't help rule out the image as containing a bug close to the lens and caught in the camera flash. It is quite common not to notice these critters at the time, here's a video from a typical investigation showing the amount encountered on the DVR system. These were not seen by those present at the time but any of the photographs taken during the night could have resulted in a similar image if any of these bugs were in shot. This picture ( midnite-walkers.com/Orbexper/Flying%20Insects.jpg) from Midnight Walkers Paranormal Society shows a few results caused by insects. See midnite-walkers.com/experiments-false-orb-experiment.php for more. Using the same rating criteria we apply to our own images, this image would have to be rated either " Explained" or " Natural explanation highly likely". It is however always good to collect and share such images so that everyone can benefit, so thanks for showing it to us here. Keep up the good work!

hi, my first reaction was a bug, there is a rapid movement that youve captured that looks most similar to a wing of a bug, they can be very discreet and quiet, and very unnoticable, probably why u didnt notice them
