Why are orbs circular and not insect shaped? As any object becomes out of focus it begins to take on the shape of the lens aperture. The more out of focus and brightly lit the more circular it becomes. This may continue until it is so out of focus it goes beyond a circle and shows the shape formed by the various blades of the shutter (eg. hexagonal). Remember also that it is often just a part of the object being reflected - the parts that reflect the light back into the lens creating the so called "circle of confusion". Take a look at the video below and you'll see some insect shapes as they near focus - but also the circular ones. The culprits here were dust and insects caught in the infrared light of the night vision camera. Some pictures show an insect which is nearing focus so its features are more discernible, but then again I've also seen such images being portrayed to contain angels! Here are some insect pictures from Midnite Walkers Paranormal Research Society's false orb experiment. (See midnite-walkers.com/experiments-false-orb-experiment.php for more!)
