I have had a couple of bad experiences of late, the first one being a few weeks back my friend and came across an old abandoned cemetary on the outskirts of Melbourne. It was during the day so we proceeded to stop and take some pics.We were there for about an hour when the landowner next door approached us and asked what we were up to.I told him that we were taking some photos of the old gravestones and asked him if he had noticed anything unusual in the cemetary since he lived next to it.This was met by a torrent of abuse from him and he called us Satanist Weirdos. He then took down the rego of my friends car and threatened to call the police if we did not leave!!. My friend and i tried to explain to him that we ment no harm and that we only had an interest in the paranormal activitys if any.By this stage he was becoming aggressive so we proceeded to leave never to return.Has anyone else had similar problems and if so what is the best approach when trying to ask questions in relation to these types of sites, also as it is just my friend and myself are we better off joining a group than going it alone.Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Hey there. I guess there are several issues on the subject. I guess the value of a consent from someone is always a good plan. Up until 7 years ago I lived in the uk. Whenever I was anywhere near graves I got a consent from the local minister/priest. Same as old buildings on farmland, often found on rural land in the uk. I work alone, don't even have a back up. That's because I just don't know anyone with my interests and local groups seem to have adopted social clicks that don't encourge new people. That's why I am here.if I cannot get support in the flesh then forums like these give me strength. That's not to say I am not mega frustrated.
To summarize . A group is a great idea. Best of luck getting on one!!! And trying to get permission in advance where ever you go and however much a pain it is, is the way to go. Keep the faith and happy investigating.

Thankyou for your advice and words of encouragment it is always good to speak with like minded people. In relation to the cemetary, we found out that it is still a public cemetary that is still in use and has graves which date back to 1866. The person who gave us trouble was the owner of an ajoining property. We were there during normal opening hours as stated by sign at the entrance to the cemetary wich my friend went back to confirm, it is that small no wonder we missed it!!, that is why his attitude completely shocked us.The reason we seek out these out of the way places is that ghost tours we have been are abit to cliched for our liking take for example the Melbourne Ghost walk.A great tour if you are interested in the citys history but as a ghost tour i think not.But we will always keep trying and hopefully one day we will get the experiance that we are seeking. We are planning a trip to Monte Cristo homestead soon and i will let you know how we went as we are looking into an overnight stay should be interesting.

If I ever get approached in an old cemetery (by a living person) I tell them I'm documenting history. I'm also in Melbourne.

Thanks for the advice i will use that next time i go to an older cemetery or old ruin. The cemetary in question was the Truganina one wich is located just off the corner of Woods Rd and Dochertys Rd on the southern end of Woods Rd approx 400meters on the right.Since we last went they have put up a much larger sign out front to state that it is a public cemetery.
