So your invited to investigate an apparently haunted location, this location happens to be rather large and with limited time or equipment you really arnt sure where to start. As it is we Ghost Hunters listen to the reports and base the camera and audio location accordingly BUT what if we could decide where the ghosts would appear. What if it was possible to beckon, to call to the spirits or ghosts and draw them in to a specific location. Well this is something that Im working on now. The Welcome Wagon, the name taken from the 1996 movie “Independence Day” the welcome wagon was in fact a helicopter equipped with a light board with the lights flashing in a sequence that was devised because of our inability to communicate with the alien visitors thereby using a visual form of communication.
Additionally the same sort of idea was used nearly 20yrs earlier in the 1977 movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” in addition to light they also used sound, something for a later date I think. But back to the subject, the light sequence was basically a form of communication, a way to peacefully get the attention of the unknown species.
As some already know, Ive been working hard on the IR Strobe theory (found here: S.P.I.D.E.R. Web : Infrared Strobe Theory with additional information here: S.P.I.D.E.R. Web : The Infrared Strobe Theory Revisited) during this experimentation I and a few others have experienced high quality EVPs or other unexplained activity where none had been caught before, which has lead us to the idea that MAYBE the strobe is acting like some sort of beacon, drawing attention to itself and bringing forward spirits or ghosts. On that basis Ive been working on an IR version of the Welcome Wagon. Currently its attached to my Multi Terrain Camera:
But I intend on building a larger version not quite the scale of the Independence Day version but something that will mount on a tripod and be placed in a room with audio recorders in an attempt to catch some solid evidence. As for technical stuff, the LEDs will be the usual 850nM which Ive found to compatible with MOST nightvision cameras. As for the light sequence theres 3 or 4 different sequences I can use, though to maintain control and consistency Ill use only one for a fixed period then try another to determine which gets better results.
Why would this work though? As I see it, theres the possibility that an intelligent haunt MAY find this interesting, and venture into the immediate area out of curiosity. Remembering that the emergency services use flashing lights and strobes to catch the attention of drivers it would be logical that something unfamiliar, something flashing would strict a curiosity amoungst the deceased much like how the moth is drawn to the flame or the child to Christmas lights. The element of intrigue and interest in something new, something thats not normal of that surrounding, something that isnt always used like your IR camera or common found tools for Ghost Hunting. Something I try to do when looking into new gear and new ideas is to make it fresh, and I believe that this is something we may find a useful tool in the future....
So as far as experimentation and development of this new tool, stay tuned.....
