No doubt many of you have heard of the Australian bushfires, which at one point were about 30 minutes drive away from me. They still burn out of control and although some of my friends have lost homes and had close escapes they certainly count themselves lucky to have survived. It's the worst Australian bushfire disaster on record and authorities suspect the death toll may exceed 300 as they continue to enter isolated areas. Entire towns were virtually wiped off the map with high winds and temperatures exceeding 45 degrees celsius, making it the hottest day since Victorian records began. Many received little or no notice as the fire spread rapidly across thousands of hectares of land, some fire fronts exceeding 100km in width. Many were caught in their cars whilst trying to escape. Over 750 homes have been destroyed and the fires continue. Interactive fire mapIf anyone would like to donate you can do so by clicking on the red cross logo below

I did read of these fires, and my prayers go out to all of those affected. Being a full time firefighter here in the states, I will also send prayers out to the crews that had to battle these blazes
Be safe

As the hot weather and fire season begins here in southern California, I find myself thinking about this firestorm quite a bit. We lost family members in the fires that devastated the Kinglake area, and we're still grieving their loss.
My heart goes out to everyone touched by this tragedy.
Regards,
Brian
